Here’s mine. I still argue it’s the perfect starter car for a high school car guy/girl: enough fun to drive without being totally hardcore but too slow to really get into trouble, practical with a ton of room in the back for your friends and their football gear, and since it’s a Focus some people wil give you shit about owning it and you’ll develop a much-needed thick skin (perfect for high school!).

The SVT does not get the love it deserves. That is one heck of an engine in there.

I dunno, the SVT Focus was kinda cool back in its day. A bit pricey for high schoolers at that point, though. It makes me feel old to see them with 150K on them and selling for less than five grand now.

Seriously, people dismiss it because “lol, it’s a Focus bro!” but it really is a great little car. I plan on keeping mine for as long as I can, it’s way too much fun to sell.

Well I bought mine in 2012 for $6k with 94k miles, which I don’t really think is too much for a high school kid to save up working a few years. But yeah prices have weirdly stagnated; seems like if it’s a clean-titled car with no mods everyone wants $5k or more regardless of mileage.

Yeah, $6K is doable for many high schoolers. It was new when I was in high school, though! I don’t remember exactly what they were back then but it had to have been in the $20-25K range. Some high school kids have that much for a car, I guess, but I doubt many earned it working minimum wage.

Fully optioned out the cars were a shade under 20k which isn’t an entirely unreasonable price for a well-off parent to pay for a new car (a lot of people at my high school had 25k ‘budgets’ and ended up with Civics or whatever), though I can’t imagine any kid could afford that unless they seriously busted their ass with multiple jobs or saved up for years and years.

I was trying to find an SVT Focus for myself as a 30 y/o adult. Everytime I would find one in good shape someone would snap it up on me. Got an 02 Mini Cooper S instead.

I had the same problem with the two cars I called about before this one, market moves fast on decent examples. Not entirely without reason, of course, only 14,000 were built and it seems like a lot of them were bought by idiots who beat the shit out of them so the good ones are quite rare.

On a sidenote, how do you like your Mini? It was on my short list when I was car shopping but the ones worth buying were a bit too expensive for me, always wondered what they were like.

Its good, Ive lowered it a touch, and put a 17% reduction pulley on it. So its pretty quick, and fun.
